Monolith Revisit

After a look at what the first rendition on monolith was, I began to explore what it could become.  While the first version of the lamp was over the top and the metaphor was too obvious.  It was with this in mind, that I approached the next attempt.  The goal being to create a lamp that hinted at an industrial and raw aesthetic without becoming niche and cliche.

Without the direct link to the people of a loft environment like the last light, it was possible to also explore the social structures that surround the light. The white and lighter concrete base hint towards a new movement in recent industry, the “green” movement.  This lamp, representing industry, is white to reflect a cleaner and more responsible approach to production.

Physically the lamps three sources are positioned to light an entire studio apartment via refection and refraction on the floor, ceiling, and walls.
